Ching Tien
Founder and President of Educating Girls of Rural China
Ching Tien grew up in Beijing at a privileged girls’ school. During the Chinese Cultural Revolution, her dream of an education was shattered; she was sent to Gansu Province to work in a factory for 8 years. She moved to Canada in the 1980s, and founded Educating Girls of Rural China in 2005 on the belief that educated women have educated children. EGRC has supported the education of 1060+ girls in Western China to date. Ching Tien received the Governor General’s Award in 2017.
