When women change the world
Chékéba Hachemi
Chékéba Hachemi fled Afghanistan during the soviet invasion and arrived in France aged 11. In 1996, concerned about the future of her country, she set up the Afghanistan Libre association which has since fulfilled numerous projects for Afghan women in the fields of education, health and rural development. She leads various actions across the world to promote girls’ education and was involved in a workgroup with Kofi Annan, at the time Secretary-General of the UN, and Nicole Fontaine, President of the European parliament… In 2001, she was the first woman diplomat appointed to the Afghan government.
