Georgina Mendoza is a researcher and social entrepreneur in the area of community development and sustainability. For the past 5 years she has specialized in the inclusion of waste pickersinto the formal recycling chain. In this process she tries to improve “pepenadores” (waste pickers) working conditions while empowering them so they can make voluntary choices. She works on their social inclusion and liberation from corrupt self-center leaders. Currently she is doing a PhD on the cultural aspects needed to be taken into account for the inclusion of marginalized communities such as pepenadores.
